Just before the party being held to celebrate his100th birthday, Allan manages to escape from his nursing home. He buys a bus ticket with the only change that he has and takes off into a wonderfully surreal black comedy. Everything that takes place in his journey refers back to his childhood hobby of bomb-making. But the story is driven by his misappropriation of a suitcase, the mob that attempts to catch him and the police inspector who twists and turns in his attempt to locate the centenarian. Allan's past life unfolds in a serious of hilarious historical vignettes that deliver a quick trawl through 20thcentury history: Franco, Truman, Stalin and Mao Tse Tung among others all have bit-parts in this strange and endearing romp based on Jonas Jonasson's best-selling book.

'The screen adaptation does full justice to the book, transforming it into a winningly absurd, freewheeling fable that comes close to being a Swedish Forrest Gump.' Allan Hunter, Daily Express
